The past three weeks...

        At the moment of writing this, it's a few minutes before midnight and in several hours I'll be going to church.
Friday's classses were suspended due to the typhoon, which means we have a long weekend ahead. Four days of no classesA Friday to Monday. ^_____________^

    Normally, I'd be asleep by now, but we just finished playing. Haha! Playing cards, I mean. Don't worry there was no money involved. Although the loser in each game had to put powder on her face or her arms. So we pretty much look silly. I learned a few new games this evening. We also made a new friend. A girl in the next room was lonely since all her rooom mates had gone home for the weekend. We started playing around 8 pm and ended just a few minutes before writing this. It was really fun. I bet we were probably really noisy, but thankfully there's no bedcheck on weekends so nobody came to check on us tell us off.

    So my last blog was written on the 27th of June. It's been about three weeks since then. The past week I was sick with cough, colds and a recurring fever. It started with a sore throat the Saturday before and the next day I had also developed a cold. By Monday, it had turned into a low fever. To top it all, the weather did not seem to want to cooperate and it was raining most of the time. My PE is on Tuesdays and Thursdays and I had a long exam for Math 60 on Wednesday.

    So all in all, not a very good week. I had to attend my classes the morning of Tuesday, so I did. But I decided not to go to PE, because I did not feel well enough to participate. It is jiu-jitsu after all. So Wednesday came and I had my first long exam for Math 60. Although I had studied, I had a bad feeling that day. Sure enough, it did not really go well. There were only 15 items, worth 45 points in all. But the last test had 4 items worth 5 points each which made up nearly half the test. I really felt like I failed it and am almost sure that I did. We were allowed to keep a copy of the test, much to my dismay, as I did not want to be reminded of it. The moment I left the classroom, I texted my father about it and how I felt I failed it. Later on, I checked my answers by trying to answer the items again. I found out I got a few right, but I don't think it's enough to pass. I missed out a lot on the items with big points.

    Did I mention my computer has a calculator for graphing, solving solutions and basically equipped with all the necessary functions needed for math? Haha! It's really useful. I used it to solve some of the items and to check my answers.I think I got about forty percent. Hoepfully , the teacher gives points for some solutions.

    Moving on, I met my father last Tuesday, the day before the exam. He was in town for a pictorial for their annual report, and only for that. We had dinner at Tokyo Joe's at SM North which is like a fast food version of japanese food. It had been about 2 weeks since I last saw my father, and he'll be here next week again, for reasons unkown to me.

    Going back to my health, I visited the infirmary to confirm whether or not I had a fever. Upon arrival, I was directed to the emergency room as the regular doctors already went home. The doctor gave me a prescription, told me to continue the medicine I was taking and that I only had a mild fever and not that over-publicized h1n1 flu virus. I am currently doing okay. My fever and cold have gone, although my cough is stil persisting.

    The week before, around July 8 or so, school was kinda normal. I found an org I want to join. It's called TOMO-KAI, a Phil-Japan Friendship Club. The name comes from "tomodachi" and "kaibigan" which are the Japanese and Filipino words for "friend"respectively. I signed up and attended the orientaiton. Basically, I am still an applicant, and if I pass I will be a bona fide member next sem. This whoole first sem is an application period. There are a few requirements though. Like number of hours spent at the club HQ and attendance of some events. They had a meeting last Wednesday, but since I was sick I did not go. There was supposed to be another one on Friday, but since classses were suspended, it was moved to Saturday morning. I overslept Saturday morning and since the weather was cold, I was too lazy to get out of bed and did not go either. It seems like I'm off to a rocky start. Never mind. I'll make up for it later.

    The week I found that org, which by the way was through their posters which only fans of Japanese culture will understand, I also visited the College of Music out of curiosity together with my room mate. That week, I had no classes for Kas 1 as some sort of compensation for attending a trip to Mt. Banahaw which I shall elaborate later. So we headed to the building since we heard form her friend you can just go in and play on the grand piano. My hands were itching to play, so I was really excited.

    The moment we entered, I could here people tuning, people playing and singing. We looked at the bulletins for programs we could attend. A lot of them werejust within the campus and free of admission. Yay! UP has an orchestra by the way, I'll be sure to attend their performances. I was also looking for piano lessons, but the only one offered so far was like an extension program of the College of Music, which probably meant the teachers were professors at the college. Which explained the absurd price of more than 600 per hour. Now that's totally out of the question.

    Going back further, my streak of not writing in my blogs started Sunday, July 5 when we had our trip to Mt. Banahaw.
Generally, it was fun, but really tiring. We were hiking up the mountain, went through a really tight cave and twisted our bodies in ways we never thought we could. On our way to the river and mini waterfall, the rain that started pouring before we entered the cave was still so strong and those of us who did not bring umbrellas were soaked to the skin as we hiked down.

    There were about 300 steps going to the river and mini waterfall which meant 600 in all, up and down. My clothes and shoes were soaked, and I never felt so cold in my entire life. My mother suspects my fever came from that trip although there was about a week in between. We returned home fine, just really tired and cold. I was reminded of what Paige told me in her email about keeping warm in the cold weather and how sad it looks if a person is wet like a puppy lost in the rain,which is exactly how I felt during the hours we spent being drenched as we hiked down.

    Generally, in the past three weeks I began to adjust better to life here. Although I still keep asking myself why I took this course. To equate my frustration over my inability to cope with the math lessons : (the number of times I felt like giving up here in UP) > (the number of times I felt like giving up in my entire life)

    Anyway, this is getting long so I'll leave you with all my excitement to wath the 6th Harry Potter movie. ^__________________________^ I'll be seeing it this Monday and will probably talk about it in my next entry.

Second week of school....

Today, Saturday, June 27, my alarm woke me at a quarter to seven,but i slept for an hour more. So far, my second week of school is alright. Tuesday started with Philo 11 in the morning. We discussed our lesson further and had a seatwork. On Thursday, it was given back to us, and I got an okay score. For a Philosophy teacher, our teacher sure is predictable. His lessons are really by the book. No room for over-analyzing. Then came Math 60. On Tuesday we were supposed to pass an assignment that was done by group. However, one of our memebers, who had our answer sheet, would not reply to text messages and came in late. So we had to answer them all over again and wrote them down in another sheet of paper, just so we could pass it on time. For the next two days, we discussed lessons. On Thursday, our teacher gave us exercises to practice on our own. To my utter horror, there were 65 items! -___________________-

Each one looked difficult and I thought what a miracle it would be if I could even answer 10 or 5 items. Really, I only had time to answer three and gave up trying to pick which among the remaining 62 to answer next. The following day, Friday, I was very apprehensive, but luckily, it wasn't checked. It really just was for practice. ~__~

That day we had a seatwork by group, so naturally the task was divided. For the whole period I was stuck answering one item, that happened to be really difficult. Oh, of all the items why did I get that one? So there, that was one item our group cold not solve. Mostly because I, being assigned to it, could not answer it. But even the others, at the last minute, when they tried to answer it, they wound up with the same result I did. I could have helped with other items. But I was stuck with that one item, and I felt obliged to finish my part before helping out the others. (sigh) Feeling so useless, I asked myself again why I chose this course....

Next was English 10, where on Tuesday we were asked to go to the library and read the chapter the teacher had us xerox copied. So I did. On Thursday we continued the discussion and were told to go to the library on the second meeting next week, instead of here in the classroom for a library orientation.

PE was after English, and this week we started to learn the warm up exercises. ^___^ My time during PE has to be the funniest of this week. AFter all, we looked like little kids, rolling around on the padded floor. We learned the forward roll and the backward roll, the latter being more difficult to do. Funnily enough, it was too esay when we were kidss, but much harder now that we're grown up. Then there were cartwheels. After 2 years of not having Wushu, I was definitely out of shape, and at first we did the baby cartwheels. And there were many warm up exercises similar to the ones we did in Karate. Like jumping and twisting your body from side to side, which thankfully I was used to, but didn't keep us from looking like fish out of water. XD

The next meeting, Thursday, the teacher made the warm up a little more difficult this time by making the rolling by partner. Nope, we didn't roll together, that would be quite futile. What we had to do was roll over our partner while they were lying down in a horizontal position. But of course we only did the forward rolling, looking like GI-Joe's, I think the backward rolling would have been impossible that way. But they still made the backward rolling more difficult for us by telling us to spread our legs as we landed. This time we looke like giant sweaty frogs in the gym. Yes, that was more difficult since you had to do it while your legs were suspended in the air in the middle of your rolling. But it was still fun, since we were all beginners, and good exercise too.

On Wednesdays and Fridays, my day starts with Kasasaysayan 1, the two days, we j'ust had an introduction of our subject, that was often interrupted and sidetracked by our teacher's stories. Our teacher is very nationalistic. A bit too much for my taste. But he does know what he is talking about and grew up during the Marcos regime, thus making him very loyal to his country. An excellent person to teach the subject.

My last subject is Geology 1, so far my favorite. And the class I feel most authentic, like we're really there to learn. Most of the time in other classes, I feel blank, with lessons being served to us and me not knowing what to do with them, least of all be able to understand them there and then. Apparently, GE or general education, subjects, meaning the subjects that are not our majors, are supposed to be appreciation subjects. Luckily, I got two subjct I know will be quite useful to me, Philo 11 which is about Logic and Eng 10 which is about writing different types of academic papers, e.g., term paper, reaction paper (as if i don't know how to write them, but then again, here they might have a different idea of how those papers are written), at least i am better equipped than most of my classmates who seem to have signed up for the class, becasue they have never written those papers before, or don't really know how to. Yes, English here isn't up to par as it is in STC, but I am tolerant, and luckily I am not a show-off thus I do not reproach others for wrong grammar, pronunciation, etc. I keep my mouth shut and participate adequately so as not to look like I want attention or I want to wave my fluency at their faces. There are some people here though that do that. It's a bit funny how they participate way too much, others feel like not doing it all because of them, and sometimes their ideas are not even clearly expressed, they in fact waste a lot of time trying to, because the teacher feels obliged to entertain them.

Logic is supposed to help me with my Math, but really I am confused with our lessons, as our teacher is so theoretical, and hardly gives us concrete examples. But hopefully, it will be of some use to me. I have deadlines for another subject next Friday and the Friday after that. Plus a field trip for the same subject next Sunday, July 5. A bit early, but hopefully worth the time. ^_^ we're going to Mt. Banahaw, exploring caves and stuff. It's only a whole day, but I'm sure it'll be fun. Our other choices were Cavite and (O_o) Ilocos Norte and Sur. Waaaaaaay too far. Besides I'v already been to all the places on the itinerary for that trip. Haha! XD

I really want to see Transformers 2 but it's still unclear when. But definitely either tomorrow or on Monday. It depends on my room mates. You see, I can't go to the mall without company. Anyway, must work hard! Deadlines to meet and studying to do.

P.S. Math 60 is killing off my brain cells... T________________T

First day in college

Here it is!

    Finally my first day as a college student.
It's a week late due to the so-called "swine flu" or ah1n1 virus....

    Anyway, my day started with me waking up at 5:00 am like I always did in high school. Good thing too, since there are only three stalls in the bath room and more than a dozen people sharing.

    I ate breakfast soon after and left my dorm at around 6:35. Five minutes off my target. After one jeepney ride I arrived at the building for my first subject, Philosophy 11. The room was on the third floor, but gladly I found no difficulty in locating it. I was 15 minutes early for class, but I wasn't the only one. Most of my classmates were there too.

    The teacher came in around 10 minutes late. And all we did was check attendance, given handouts and discuss house rules, requirements, and the outline of our topics.

    And we were dismissed. Just like that.

    That gave me so much free time before my next class I really didn't know where to go. Besides, it was raining.

    I decided to go to the library where I could stay dry and read something as I happened to choose today to forget to bring a book with me.

    But then, the guard told me I needed a temporary ID from my college (which is on the other side of the campus, by the way) since I don't have my ID yet.

    Annoyed, sweaty and shivering (from walking through cold wind and rain), I decided to trudge to the Math building where I could probably just wait until my next class. I did just that, until the winds forced me to retreat inside and I found shelter in the canteen. I sat there eating for a while and 15 minutes before 10:00 am I went up to the third floor to search for my classroom.

        Again, I found it with no difficulty, but a class was still in progress and I had to wait outside. This time our class did not end so abruptly, but instead we went straight into discussing our first lesson. It was not so bad. We were given the syllabus for the semester and I learned new things I did not know about such a simple topic. Talk about making thigns complicated. Anyway, we were dismissed around 10 minutes early, giving me a lot of time to walk to my next class which was 15 minutes after Math class.

    Confused by my forms, I decided to go with the first and check if my class really was on the 5th floor. 10 minutes of walking and Four staircases later, I arrived at the classroom, only to find out it wasn't the right one. T___T

    Four staircases down, I asked helped from a guard and some students, this time I tried the other room listed, which was in a different building. I did go and was lost for a second time as all the room numbers were even and the room number given was odd. Asking for help again, I was directed to the other side of the building.

    Sweaty, shallow in breathing and panic levels on high, I arrived a few minutes late; the last one to come in. Luckily, they had just started and I did not miss much. We were asked to write about our pet's face, how it is like a book we love to read and then "disappear'. Which is our teacher's way of saying we're dismissed.

    I left half past noon and was now left with an hour and a half of free time before PE. Tired, I went to buy something to drink and some things I needed for the next day. I then proceeded to the gym where I spent time sitting outside eating my lunch. A quarter of an hour before 2:00 pm I proceeded to the judo room. ^_^

    I expected it to be bigger, but inside lining the walls were most of the students. I sat down on the padded floor and inquired whether it was the 2:00 pm class. The girl next to me said hers was the session before, but the teacher didn't show. At this remark, I did not expect my teacher to appear either.

True enough, I spent an hour waiting, along with my classmates until the growing strength of the rain finally pushed us to desert the room.
I headed back to the dorm, tired but slightly amused.
Sure, my class starts at 7:00 am everyday, earlier than high school, but it ended at 2:30 - 3:00 too. ^___________^.
Plus, I have free time from 8:30-10:00 everyday. Did I mention we don't have classes here on Mondays? Now I never have to wake up early on Monday mornings.

So as much as I was both scared and excited for my first day, it was alright. There'll be many more days like this one to come, some better, some worse, but I made it through the first day, and that gives me enough hope.

Well, it's my first weekend here at the dorm.

Off to hunt for food!

Not really hunt, just purchase. Meals aren't served here on weekends.

On top of my list of things to do: buy school supplies.

I know school doesn't start until Tuesday for me and I have Mondays off, but I like being prepared. Besides I'd rather stay in my room on Monday than go out.

This is actually the second time I'm writing this as God knows what I've done the one I was writing before this got erased. And I can't write things twice if they're spontaneous.

Ok, this is the third time.

Never mind. I won't try to remember what I wanted to write.

Let me just jot down a few points then:

1. I feel inadequate not buying school supplies before the start of classes

since I've been doing it for 10 years.

2. I don't want to use up my free time on Monday to do so, even if I could, because

I want to spend it studying in my room.

3. I fear some of my classmates, if not most or all of them ar freakishly smart

I'm normal smart, even if my friends and high school classmates don't think so,

but I'm talking about Einstein, genius-type smart.

That scares me.

4. I hope my books aren't heavy or expensive or hard to find.

I've had enough of heavy bags in grade school and high school to last me a lifetime.

In fact, it may have stunted my growth and contributed to my

far from perfect posture.

5. when I say a few I really mean several. In the absence of dogs,

the dorm abounds in cats. Small ones, big ones, fat ones, skinny ones

and in many different colors.

One thing they share in common with some of my dogs: they like the couch.

A cute kitten is peacefully snoozing on the couch across me.

Anyway, the wifi here is 5-8pm so in the earlier part of the day I can't access the Internet. Sad, really. Oh, and some sites i can't access, even if they are just for recreation.

for now this is all I can think about. I'll have something else to write about soon.

Random things...

Bought 2 books today.
Finally! I have my own copy of Jane Austen's Sense and Sensibility.
Plus, a collection of some of Oscar Wilde's works. Too bad I already bought two of his works.... means I now have two copies.
Oh, also I bought two new sandals for school use(comfortable ones)... I will have to wear casual clothing for classes now.

Lately, even if I have a lot of time, I haven't been watching asian dramas....

Strange.

But I am hooked on Grey's Anatomy and American Idol, both of which have recently concluded.

Congrats to Kris!!! I am still a Danny Gokey fan, and I think Adam is also great. ^_^ One of the best seasons, but I still like season 7 best.

Right now I'm rewatching the AI finale.

Grey's Anatomy episodes here are delayed so it'll be a while till I see the latest episodes on TV.

Did anyone see the season finale? Such a shocker...

Oh well, I have to wait until September for the new season.

A week ago today, I watched Angels and Demons after attending mass.

Ironic right? Made me think and feel I was kinda blasphemous. Haha!

Anyway, goodbye for now, until I feel like writing something again....

Summer's almost over and my first day as a college freshman looms nearer.
Love my schedule though! Never had so much free time in my life.... :)

Although I still wonder what to do during weekends....
aside from studying of course....
I am both excited and scared of what awaits me for college.

Class starts June 9 for me, Tuesday.
Until then, I'll try to enjoy what's left of my summer.

P.S. I was so sad when Danny Gokey was voted off AI,
but I'm happy that Kris won. ^_^

Last Friends

I just finished watching the third episode and so far this drama is great!!

I really like the cast because they all portray their roles well... I'm still not used to seeing Ryo in that kind
of character though, this is the first drama i've seen him in... : )

I can't wait for episode 4 to be subbed especially since the plot is starting to build up.

Piano no Mori

I just watched piano no mori on CR a few days ago... ^_^

It's not really those exciting kind of movies, but more of the feel-good type...

I enjoyed the movie especially since it was raining that day and it made me feel relaxed

I wouldn't recommend this to everybody, but for those who love music or piano, this is worth your time..

Today I found these mezamashi clips on Masami and Matsujun's new movie,
Hidden Fortress, the Last Princess

I'm so excited for this movie!!!! ^________^
It's so different from her previous works and also matsujun's....
This also has Abe Hiroshi in it, he was in Dragon Zakura with Masami.. :D

I wonder what that was?? were they dancing or something?? It looks funny...^_^
I think it's also premiering in other countries... we'll see... hopefully it'll be here in the Philippines too

Okay, so that thins maki was playing on the piano was a piece of cake....
I found I could play in less than a minute after hearing the song...
Seriously, what is it called????

Anyway...I'm really bored...
I just realised that I already have a few hundred anime and jmusic sheets...
But so far only memorized very few...
Maybe i should try concentrating on 1...
and MEMORIZE it...
I think I'll go with allegro cantabile from the nodame cantabile anime....
I've seen a few vids in youtube of people playing it.. I've had the sheet music longer than most of them
but never found the time to memorize...

I envy those who play by ear.... I'm not very good at providing accompaniment
which means that even if I usually can find the right hand, the left is out of place.. T_T

So here's another movie i recently watched called "Swing Girls"
This movie stars Juri Ueno from Nodame Cantabile fame and Hiraoka Yuta from Proposal Daisakusen

They were great!!! I'm glad the actors played their own instruments!!!
Juri was awesome!! I can't believe she plays piano AND saxophone..... and Yuta was also great on the piano..

Basically it's one of those music-inspired feel good movies you can enjoy any time of the year..
It doesn't really touch on any particular theme... maybe it's about goals in life?
I'm not sure... but it was worth my time and attention..

Juri definitely has swing!! ^_^

I want that keyboard.... T_T

well, this movie isn't complete without comedy... ^_^ this chase scene(chased by a boar)
was actually in still images... you could see a different person being targetted by the boar
every shot and in different angles too!!! it's like playing a video game where you get to pause the scene and go under, above sideways, up a tree.. etc.

at first i was pleasantly surprised at the title, but when she started playing i got annoyed...not at her...
but at people...i mean.. do you classmates say, "i can play the piano".. and then they play this??
it really annoys me...

Yasashii Jikan...

It' been so long since I've posted an entry here... ^_^
I just finished watching Yasashii Jikan which stars Nino and Masami.....

I personally think Nino is a better actor than Matsujun... it's just that the latter is more exposed...
I really like the pace of the story.. everything from the cinemtography to the excellent musical scoring
was great...

I don't really like the character of Azu played by Masami... but it goes to show she's a good actress...
I mean a person like that in real life would be pretty annoying to me and I know a lot of people would agree...
but i'm glad her character matured in the end...Nino was great!!! I could feel how sad his character was...
and even the person playing his father did a god job too!!! ^___^ the cast definitely gave a good
performance as a whole...Even if some might find the pace
slow, i found myself unable to stop watching this...
I finished all 11 episodes in 2 days... haha!!!

I loved the soundtrack and i'm currently downloading it... this is a first for me, 'cause i usually don't
download the whole thing... usually just a theme song... but i'm getting all the tracks...

Yesterday, I finally got the chance to see another movie of masami's.. YAY!!! XD i really like how this movie didn't end with someone dying like her other jun-ai movies... it also has yamada takayuki in it!!! coincidentially, she starred in a movie that got turned into a drama that he starred in......... ^_^

Some people might not agree if this movie is a tearjerker, but to those who can relate to saying goodbye to friends like moving or something, i'm sure they can... definitely a good movie, but not as powerful as tada kimi wo aishiteru....

NOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!! i just found out that hana kimi will air here in the phil. and also nobuta wo produce..... T_T

both versions will be shown, the TW and JP... ABs will have the TW and GMA will have the JP.. but ABS will also have Nobuta wo produce.....JE wo abake much???

So far...i think id did pretty well in my tests... only have two more days of tests to go...i know i aced geometry.. ^0^......... can't wait for summer!!! but until then, i'll work hard.. GANBARIMASU!!!! i'm so sad to learn that binbo danshi already finished airing... T_T ... i didn't know it was only 9 episodes... and the english subs aren't out yet...i also found out yesterday that my korean friend's going to japan for the summer... lucky her... T_T wish i could go too..

O_o......................tired.....this afternoon shall be remembered as the craziest one in my high school life..... my class literally went crazy over our English requirements...

Even our SS teacher felt the tension...we were rushing her too...haha....... I've never written so fast before...three pages of intermediate paper in 35 minutes..... my hand hurts so much.....to think it's my last regular class day of third year... hello summer!!!! ^____^ goodbye to my third year life... 4 more days to go...

swell, tomorrow's the start of a hectic week.... my tests are on 13th, 14th, 15th and then i'm free!!!! YAY!!! i'm taking up japanese lessons this summer ^_____^..... and i just learned about a scholarship i can possibly apply to... to go study in japan.... >..< super happy!!!!

MY GOALS for this week:

STUDY EXTREMELY HARD....
NO TV, INTERNET... just music
SLEEP EARLY ....for better memory...
SPEND EVERY DAY OF THIS WEEK WITH A SMILE... my last time to be with my classmates....
